WILL BE HELD ONLINE AND IN PERSON AT THE QFHS FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH CENTRE i.e. A HYBRID MEETING.
Each month, we'll have an opportunity to share something new we've discovered - either as a result of our own research, or within our networks, maybe it was something viewed on TV, seen online, or read on a family history blog. Read more here for details on how to contribute and links to registering for a session or two. Got a question? A suggestion? Email Members Lounge at members.lounge@qfhs.org.au. The What's New events are Members Only events. Non-members are encouraged to have a look at all of the activities of the society. In particular, check out the Members Lounge webpage where all members only events are listed. If you feel keen to attend these activities, please join us. Members, please book via Eventbrite whether attending in person or online.
At QSA on Monday 10 July, we’ll meet there at 9.15am and start with a guided behind-the-scenes tour – sure to be fascinating. This will take about 50-60 minutes and then we will settle into the Reading Room and dive into the records.
The Reading Room closes for an hour at 12.30pm – we’ll have access to a break room during the day for a cuppa, BYO lunch. The Reading Room afternoon session is 1.30pm-4.30pm , feel free to leave whenever suits you. Register now:Each topic will have a followup video which you can watch at your leisure, and step through as you are trying this out for yourself later. There will also be a handout with Resource links.
Limited places are available so bookings on Eventbrite are essential Image: Slide shows ain't what they used to be Lantern slide at Museums Victoria circa 1850 For suggestions for training course topics please contact the Education team at education@qfhs.org.au.This Family History Toolkit session will look at Negative Evidence.
You may be familiar with the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) and the Evidence Map. If so, you will know that there are three types of evidence in our genealogical research: Direct Evidence, Indirect Evidence, and Negative Evidence. Perhaps the concept of Negative Evidence is the more complex concept to grasp.
Join Sue Reid as we investigate some of the concepts relating to Evidence and see how you might use them in your research.
Don’t worry if you are not familiar with the GPS or types of evidence. You are probably using the concepts in your research anyway.
This is not a formal presentation; it is more an interactive workshop. You are welcome to contribute to the workshop or simply observe. There will be pre-work to do if you wish to take part.
Members may attend this event either
• online via Zoom or
• in person at the Family History Research Centre
