QCWA State Archivist

As a teenager, I worked for Woolworths and then Coles. As an adult I worked at Chanel Nine (Telecine On-air Operator), as a courier driver, and a welder, making amongst other things, Haulmark Trailers (the first female employed in the shed). I have also raced motorcycles and been a passenger on a sidecar. You will be pleased to know I have slowed a little as I have aged, although I still ride a motorcycle. I did not quite know what I wanted to be when I grew up.

After attaining a Bachelor of Science at Griffith University, I worked for many large and medium-sized businesses and Government Agencies based in Brisbane, for the last 20-odd years. This included managing information systems, records management systems, and archiving (the job nobody wants to do). I joined ASA (Australian Society of Archivists) in 2013 after studying for a Graduate Certificate in Information Services - digital archiving and digital recordkeeping - at Edith Cowan University. ASA is a fantastic group of enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and passionate history guardians. This group have taken me into the depths and bowels of many historical locations around Brisbane most of which I did not know much or anything about, and now I have a greater appreciation of the diverse skills and talents archivists bring to every organisation. I currently work part-time for QCWA at Heritage House in Ipswich although the organisation is based in Stones Corner, Brisbane. I have other customers where I am putting together their personal family archives. I find this work interesting and rewarding.

I have managed and led a community group of ukulele players for the last seven years. We have performed at school fetes, Christmas parties, the Ipswich Show and on community radio 4EB. Our next performance is in early October and another at Christmas time. Music is good for my soul.
