GUEST SPEAKER: RICHARD COSGROVE.Major (Rtd) Richard Cosgrove RFD has had 42 years of Military Service which involved being a Company Sergeant Major, Battery Captain and Regimental Survey Officer. In his last years he was a Major lecturing at the 1st Training Staff College and then researching and supervising the set up of the Army Training Technology Unit at Gallipoli Barracks at Enoggera. He also had 12 months in 1973 in Kashmir, India on the front line as a Military Observer with UNMOGIP. He has over 100 books on Military History covering mainly Australian Military Commanders and Operations from the Boer War to Afghanistan, including books on Army War Dogs. Richard will highlight the career of Australia’s General Sir John Monash, who was the first man in 200 years to be knighted in the field by the King of England. He changed the way future battles would be fought which would save tens of thousands of lives. He planned a major battle during WWI to last 90 minutes which lasted 93 minutes, and he achieved his objective of capturing Le Hamel.
