This set of CDs indexes the details from the Commonwealth Electoral Roll for all electors registered in Queensland for the years 1903, 1906, 1913, 1922, 1934, 1941, 1949 and 1959 for which records survive. The entries cover name, sex, place of living, occupation, roll number, polling place and division. The index allows direct searching on name, year, location, occupation and the other details with QFHSdatasearch.
The material on this CD is an excellent starting point for researching families living in Queensland or for local history studies. It covers all electors recorded in the rolls held in the National Archives of Australia and lists all the information recorded in the roll. Combining the range of information with the search specifications and sorting facilities in QFHSdatasearch can be particularly useful for locating family groups, studying local industry etc. by specifying a surname, occupation or place of living within polling place.
Women gained the federal franchise at Federation and represent approximately forty percent of those registered on the Queensland rolls in 1903. Though registration was not compulsory until 1912, Queenslanders from all walks of life are found on all rolls – there are bug destroyers, circus performers, chimney sweeps, dog poisoners as well as farmers, labourers, miners and those on domestic duties.
